“You're still early”: what the data says
As of Oct 22, 2026
“Still early” is one of the most common arguments for buying. It sounds like opportunity but says little: early compared to what? A look at the numbers helps.
What “early” usually means
It usually means: the price is still far below what's supposedly possible. Behind it is the assumption that prices eventually return to their highs or go beyond. For many coins, that hasn't happened in the past.
The numbers today
Of the 100 largest coins (excluding stablecoins), 100 trade more than 5% below their all-time high today, 82 even more than 50%. The median coin is −83% below its peak.

A coin far below its all-time high isn't automatically “early”. Some recover, many stay below for years or drop out of the top 100.
Better questions than “am I early?”
- What market cap would the price target need?
- Is usage growing, or just the hype?
- How many new coins are still to come (dilution)?
- How would a 50% crash feel for you?
Try it without real money
With a test drive you try a buy idea with real prices but no real money. Afterwards you know how the idea would have done – sometimes up, sometimes down.
